Big Fan (R)

A bit of a sleeper in the theaters, this film is a gem. Actor Patton Oswalt is great as Paul Aufiero, an over avid sports fan who has little else to enjoy in his dreary life. Living in Staten Island with his mother, the 35-year-old Giants fan, Paul, spends his evening calling on-air sports shows and verbally sparring with his archrival Phil, an Eagles fan.

One night reality meets dream. Paul and his buddy Sal spot Giants linebacker Quantell Biship out on the town and follow him into another world where things take a nasty turn and Paul’s allegiance to his team is sorely tested. If you enjoyed writer/ director Robert Siegel’s “The Wrestler,” you won’t want to miss this, his latest voyage into the depths of indecision, fear, disappointment and disillusionment.
