The famous doctor, Mehmet Oz, once stated that energy medicine (or energy therapy) is the wave of the future. Since traditional medicine doesn’t always solve a health or emotional issue, some people are starting to look for alternative solutions and searching globally for ways of dealing with health or life issues.
Human beings are more than just flesh, bone and muscle. We are also made up of energy, and are very much affected by energy. For example, have you noticed how you feel good around some people and not so good around others? Some people are energy “vampires” and can leave you feeling drained.
The energy of a place can also have an effect on you. Sometimes when you walk into a room or someone’s home, it feels good. Other times, you can’t wait to get out. Some people are more sensitive to energy than others, but the experiences are common.
Everything is made up of energy and there are many different types of energy therapy to assist our energy field. Examples are Healing Touch, Reiki, Universal Healing Energy and Polarity, a few of which we’ll discuss here.
Some approaches, such as acupuncture or acupressure, work with meridians or energy pathways, while other approaches work with chakras or energy centers.
For example, Healing Touch is a form of energy medicine that was developed by nurses and is taught and used in hospitals all over the world. It helps to speed recovery from surgery or the effects of chemotherapy.
Linda Elaine Smith is a Healing Touch practitioner and teacher. She says, “Healing Touch is a sacred healing art that has a physics underpinning with an understanding that human beings are a multi-dimensional field of flowing interactive energy. Healing Touch is defined as an energy therapy in which practitioners use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to enhance support and facilitate physical, emotional and mental health and self healing.
Healing Touch uses light, or near, body touch to clear and balance the human energy system and to promote healing for body, mind and spirit. Those who have Healing Touch pre-and post surgery seem to have less pain, heal at a faster rate and have fewer complications.”
Healing Touch classes are held locally at the Healing Arts Center in Maplewood, Missouri. For more information, visit www.healingtouchprogram.com.
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is another type of energy therapy. Some people call all forms of energy therapy “Reiki,” but it is a specific type where an advanced practitioner or Reiki Master “attunes” the client to a higher level of energy frequency. Susan Brockmeier (centerfortransformation.net), Reiki master and teacher says, “Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that utilizes universal life energy that runs through everything and everyone to heal the body and mind. It has an innate intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do.”
This type of energy therapy involves being in a passive state, where the client is receiving energy through the therapist. This can take the client into a deep state of relaxation, where their body, mind and spirit can become centered and healing can occur. It often produces a sublime feeling of well-being.
Another type of energy therapy involves an interactive talking session and deals with emotions, thoughts and beliefs. Thoughts and beliefs produce energy, and emotions such as anger, anxiety, depression and fear can produce a block in your energy field. Our energy is a result of our thoughts and beliefs. Sometimes it’s all in our heads!
Called Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT, it is based on the concept of utilizing energy pathways or meridians which parallels acupuncture but without needles. This is not too far out when you consider that the Chinese have practiced acupuncture for thousands of years. EFT involves tapping, with your fingers, on specific meridian points (mostly on the face) while focusing on a negative feeling. People often try to avoid negative emotions such as fear or anger. With EFT, however, the more intensely the individual feels it, the more easily it can be cleared.
For example, let’s say someone at work said something that really made you angry. Perhaps you were overlooked for all the hard work you put into a project. EFT encourages you to feel the negative emotion while tapping certain points on the body. In a short time, the emotion and associated issue start to fade away. Often, when the emotional charge is taken from a situation, you will suddenly gain a totally new way of viewing it.
Another technique is called Psych-K which stands for Psychological Kinesiology. It is a powerful technique that frees your mind of negative thoughts and beliefs that can sabotage your success and happiness. Through muscle testing, you can determine what those beliefs are. Then, you can change them by using various brain balancing techniques that work by creating a state of mind that is receptive to change at the subconscious level.
All these types of energy therapy can make you feel better physically and mentally and keep you in the flow of life.
