Fantastic Mr. Fox is an example of stop-motion animation at its very
finest. Director Wes Anderson leaves no stone unturned and no whisker
unbent in this magical video interpretation of Roald Dahl’s children’s
book of the same title. The story, the talent and the choice of
old-school animation produces the perfect entertainment blend for both
adults and children.
Mr. Fox (George Clooney) is introduced to
us as a young bon vivant who is burning the candle at both ends, spends
his days and nights raiding squab coops, pillaging hen houses and
romancing the beautiful, foxy young lady who will later become Mrs. Fox
(Meryl Streep).
With marriage and the arrival of his son, Ash,
Mr. Fox tries to settle down and become a family man. If he had, the
story would be over. Fortunately, Mr. Fox is a backslider and the
crafty fellow begins raiding the wares of three powerful, local
farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean. That’s when all the excitement begins.
To tell more would spoil the story for the adults. The kids already
know it.
There is so much attention to detail that you could see
this movie several times and always find something new. Intelligent,
meaningful and loaded with cultural references, I have no doubt that
you will enjoy it on several levels. Rating: 4
