How to Train Your Dragon (PG) (2010) You are in for a treat if you tag along  with the kids to see this latest 3-D, animated film, designed to entertain the youngsters. In just a few minutes, you will be taken to the world of ancient Vikings where dragons terrorize villages and dragon hunting is a very popular sport among the human population. Hiccup, a young Viking (voiced by Jay Baruchel), envisions himself a brave dragon hunter until the day that he traps and befriends a dragon that he names Toothless.

Feeling that dragons have been judged too harshly, Hiccup works to promote understanding and respect between the two divergent species. Some great lessons about humane relationships ensue from the clever action and dialog.

The beautiful adventure when Toothless gives Hiccup a soaring ride in the clouds is an especially touching scene. As a result of his friendship and understanding of Toothless, Hiccup manages to think for himself instead of being a pawn of the society in which he lives.

Based on a popular kids’ novel by Cressida Cowell, the animated action and interestingly developed characters bring the printed story to life. A beautifully animated story with a cross-generational appeal, “Dragon” has much to offer the world of family entertainment.
