Remember Me (PG-13) (2010)

Love stories can be beautiful and magical, or they can be very syrupy and trite. Plenty of syrup runs through the veins of this romantic drama starring teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson as Tyler, a young man searching for a future and finding a soul-mate along the way. His love affair with the beautiful Ally (Emile de Ravin) turns out to be rather complicated, but at times very tender. Hurdles to their relationship keep popping up, but the two young lovers manage to hang in there. Both hearts have been severely damaged by the tragedy of sudden death and neither has thoroughly mended.
Most of Tyler’s angst centers on the suicide of his older brother, Michael, at age twenty-two. Tyler is quickly approaching his twenty-second birthday, and the dark memory overshadows his celebration. Both he and this young sister struggle in vain to get the attention of their father (Pierce Brosnan) who appears emotionally bankrupt after the death of his first son. Much attention is given to the nurturing relationship between Tyler and his little sister.
Director Allen Coulter takes the story to the next level with a tragic ending that will either take your breath away or leave you feeling manipulated.  Rating: 2
