Shutter Island (R) (2010)

United States Marshal Ted Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) is working a missing persons case with his new partner (Mark Ruffalo) in an unlikely place, Ashecliffe Hospital, a remote asylum for the criminally insane that is conveniently situated on the remote Shutter Island that has only one point of access. Upon their arrival, they’re met by a team of security guards who look very serious about their assignment. Driven to the main campus and told the limitations and stipulations of their investigation, the two begin their interrogation of staff and patients, all in an effort to shed some light on the baffling case of a missing patient. It seems virtually impossible that someone has managed to escape the all inclusive surveillance and security measures of the institution.
Throughout the interrogatories and meetings with the hospital administrators, the marshal “smells a rat.” Convinced that there is something very dark going on within the gates of Ashecliffe, he keeps his eyes and ears open for clues and trusts no one. Sometimes confiding in his partner, and sometimes not, the seasoned lawman plods on with his task of uncovering the truth of the situation at hand. But who and what can he believe? The reality lies somewhere just beyond his grasp. Rating: 4 (out of 4)
