The Spirit Whisperer: An Interview with John Holland
by Linda M. Potter

It’s about 9:00 a.m. on a Monday, and I’m beginning my week with a long-distance phone interview with psychic medium, John Holland. He’s just returned from Europe, he explains, and he’s still a little jet lagged, but is happy to speak with me. We’re midway through discussing his work and his new book, The Spirit Whisperer, when he tells me he is getting a message and we will need to shift gears. Without skipping a beat, he moves into medium mode.

John:  “I think your mom is strong with you. She’s there. (short pause) Where’s the double “B” happening, past or living?

Linda:  My husband’s name is Bob.

John: That would be it. Yes, of course, because your mom knew him. Are you her only daughter?

Linda:  No, but I’m the oldest.

John: Okay, because there’s a #1 above you, which always means to me the only, the oldest or the favorite. Why would Florida be significant?

Linda: That’s where my maternal grandmother lived. We visited there every summer when I was a child…

The questions keep coming and I do my best to answer them. Puzzle pieces continue to come together until it’s clear that my mother, who passed away four years ago, is guiding the conversation. It’s an out-of-the-box, but fascinating, experience.
World-renowned psychic medium, John Holland, is a widely-respected figure in the world of psychic mediums. During his 17 years as a working medium, his exceptional abilities to communicate with the “other side” have earned him principal roles in several television specials, including Psychic History, Unsolved Mysteries, Extra and A&E’s Mediums: We See Dead People. He is also the bestselling author of such popular books as Power of the Soul, Psychic Navigator, Born Knowing and the newly released, The Spirit Whisperer – Chronicles of a Medium.
John Holland is also a straight shooter. He tells you exactly what he believes, how things work and how they don’t.
Up front, he explains that he never knows who will come through during readings, whether in his private office or in front of large audiences.
“It isn’t a case of 1-800-dial-the-dead. People come and they want to talk to their mother who passed away, but an aunt may come through, or a friend who died young.” But regardless of who shows up, he says, the message is almost always the same: that they’re alive and well, and are here to support you.
Although it may be helpful to work with a medium such as John, he is the first to point out that connecting with loved ones who have passed on doesn’t require an intermediary. After death communications (ADC) happen to us all the time. Holland says there have been estimates that anywhere from 60 million to 120 million Americans have had experiences with ADCs. The key to being a medium is learning how to recognize and respond to them.
Loved ones can show up in dreams, he explains, or they might announce their presence through familiar smells, such as a signature perfume or a favorite flower. They might also manipulate electrical appliances. The light that goes on and off without explanation may be someone from the other side, trying to get in touch. Calling cards such as shiny pennies found in unusual places or a single feather that mysteriously appears on a dining room chair, he says, can be messages from beyond.
The signs are there, but they can be subtle. “The more you begin to notice them,” he claims, “the more of them you start to see.”
John Holland appears in St. Louis at 560 Music Hall on May 6 at 7:00 p.m. His lectures include an astounding demonstration of mediumship with live readings and messages for some of the audience members. The lecture will be followed by a book signing of some of John’s bestselling titles, including his latest, The Spirit Whisperer.
The locale is 560 Music Hall, 560 Trinity Avenue at the corner of Delmar and Trinity in University City.  For further information and to purchase tickets, contact  www.brownpapertickets.com or BellaSpark Productions, (970) 443-0732.
