Thermography: A Hot Topic
Mecial Thermography of Metro St. Louis

December 2011/
January 2012
Have you considered adding thermography to your preventive health-screening tools? Thermography uses an infrared camera to provide information on vascular activity, inflammation, lymphatic activity, hormonal dysfunction and other functional abnormalities.

Annual thermography screenings may detect irregularities earlier than other tests. Inflammation, a precursor to many diseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart disease and diabetes, may be detected before any malignant pathology occurs, facilitating early treatment.

Thermography offers early detection breast health screening. It is gaining popularity as a breast cancer screening tool because it can detect conditions before a noticeable lump is formed. It takes years for most cancers to develop to the stage that they can be detected with mammogram or ultrasound.  Thermograms detect blood-flow patterns, inflammation and asymmetries, whereas mammograms look at anatomical changes and detect masses or lumps in the breast tissue.

Thermography is FDA approved and endorsed by the United Breast Cancer Foundation. It is non-invasive, painless, makes no physical contact and uses no radiation. It is a valuable tool for young women with a family history of breast disease or women with implants who might not otherwise be tested.

Medical Thermography of Metro St. Louis is a Meditherm clinic. Meditherm is well established as the market leader in clinical thermography—with the largest network of thermography systems installed in the world. Board-certified physicians who are specialists in thermography interpret the scans. Most insurance companies do not currently include thermography in their screening options. However, screening is surprisingly affordable.
